TBT (October 23, 2017) - 2 years ago the abandoned Chart House located on the edge of Biscayne Bay in Coconut Grove started demolition. The new Regatta Harbour will eventually take the place of the old Chart House restaurant and a new seawall is currently being built on the perimeter.

The Chart House in Coconut Grove is now being demolished after the initial demolition date of September 11th was delayed because of Hurricane Irma.

Built in 1982, with 10,515 square feet, The Chart House was designed by architect Joe Lancor of Hawaii who also designed many other Chart Houses across the country.

The Chart House closed in November 2015 after 33 years to make way for a mixed use development called The Harbour that will have two restaurants, entertainment event space, marina with 400 boat slips, a public baywalk and converting the seaplane hangars into retail space. It will be developed by The Grove Bay Hospitality Group who received the contract by Miami City Commissioners in 2013. The Harbour was approved by voters in a 2013 referendum.

The Harbour is expected to be open early 2019 and cost $80 million.

Construction will begin on the 7 acre The Harbour soon after the Coconut Grove Arts Festival ends on February 19th, according to Miami Today.

Development of the project, which will include two upscale restaurants, one casual restaurant, event space, marina with 400 boats slips, public baywalk and converting the hangars into retail space was delayed for years by litigation. The delay caused The Chart House restaurant to be abandoned for several years before it was finally demolished in October 2017.

Construction will also begin soon on the Grove Bay Garage which will now be two stories instead of three, but still be able to accommodate 333 parking spaces.

Munilla Construction Management has been selected out of 5 other bidders to construct a new Grove Bay Parking Garage, according to Miami Today.

The new redesigned parking garage will have two parking levels instead of three, but still have 333 parking spaces.

The Grove Bay Parking Garage is part of a 7 acre mixed used development leased by The City of Miami, called The Harbour, which will be developed by The Grove Bay Investment Group.

Demolition recently began on the abandoned Chart House on the edge of Biscayne Bay and construction will begin soon on The Harbour, that will have two restaurants, entertainment event space, marina with 400 boat slips, and a public baywalk.
