MLS Approves Overtown Stadium Site

Stadium Location in Red

On Saturday, Major League Soccer approved of the Overtown location for David Beckham's expansion team.

The site located at 650 NW 8th Street will be combined with a block South of that location that will be sold by Miami-Dade County totaling 2.79 acres.

Beckham and his group previously looked at stadium locations on The Port of Miami and Downtown Miami's Museum Park.

Miami Boat Slip

The Miami Herald reports that Miami Mayor Tomás Regalado and City Manager Daniel Alfonso have nixed the idea of David Beckham having his MLS stadium in Museum Park and the boat slip next to the American Airlines Arena.

Beckham and his investors originally wanted the stadium at the Port of Miami, so this latest news will force them to look elsewhere for their planned stadium.

Museum park is still set to open on June 14.

Beckham's MLS Miami Soccer Stadium Headed For Referendum

Two Options for the Soccer Stadium - The Boat Slip or The Port of Miami

The Miami Herald reports that a referendum will be needed if David Beckham and his investors want to build their MLS soccer stadium on the boat slip next to the American Airlines Arena. The boat slip would need to be filled in and could take up space in the almost finished Museum Park

The county owned property on the Port of Miami would not require a referendum, but could seek voter approval.

The earliest votes could take place is August, but a November ballot seems to be the more likely scenario.
