Perez Art Museum of Miami Under Construction

Formally located in downtown and known as the Miami Art Museum, the Perez Art Museum of Miami (PAMM) is part of the 20 acre Museum Park. Located at 1103 Biscayne Boulevard PAMM has incredible views of Downtown Miami and Biscayne from inside and outside the building.

Designed by Swiss architects Herzog and de Meuron, the $220 million building has 200,000 square footage with 120,000 square feet of interior and 80,000 square feet of outdoor space. The museum feature incredible works of art from all over the world and features its increbdile hanging gardens on the exterior of the building.

PAMM was financed by $120 million in private funding and $100 in taxpayer money. Miami developer Jorge Perez donated $40 million in money and art to the museum.

The building was completed in time in December 2013 for Art Basel.

Construction on Watson Island Still Hasn't Begun

In May, Miami Commissioners gave approval for the developer Flagstone Property Group to begin construction by June 2, but that date has come and go nothing has been done to the site.

According to the Miami Herald, Flagstone hasn't applied for building permits, but they say, "“construction work” had indeed begun by June 2 — because, they say, a diver mapped and surveyed corals and sea grasses that must be moved or replaced elsewhere in the bay before dredging and construction of the marina can begin."

Flagstone has been paying $2 million a year in rent based on 2001 values, when the actual value should be around $7.2 million.

Flagstone claims marina construction should begin by December.

Grove at Grand Bay Construction Photos

Designed by Bjarke Ingels and developed by the Terra Group, the Grove at Grand Bay is a one of a kind building in Miami that was once the site of the iconic Grand Bay Hotel Coconut Grove.

The Grove at Grand Bay will have two twisting towers that will both rise 20 stories and have 12 foot high ceilings. The two towers will have incredible views of Biscayne Bay, Key Biscayne and Downtown Miami.

Each tower will have many twisting columns that will give the building its unique look.

Construction is expected to be completed in 2015.

PortMiami Tunnel To Remain Closed For Another Month

A month since the ceremonial dedication, the $1 billion PortMiami Tunnel will not be open for traffic for at least another four to six weeks due to a leaky pipe system and two fans that stopped working, which control the tunnel's ventilation according to the Miami Herald.

The French contractor Bouygues is being fined $115,000 every day that the tunnel is closed and has already climbed to $3 million. If the tunnel does not open until the end of July that total will jump to $8 million.

The Evolution of Bicentennial Park to Museum Park

Originally, before it was Museum Park or Bicentennial Park, the land was the location of the Port of Miami.

In 1960, the City of Miami bought the land, but it wasn't until 1974 that the Miami City Commission approved plans for Bicentennial Park.

After the Port of Miami moved to Dodge Island, Bicentennial Park was created from the old dock slips and finally opened in 1976.

From 1986 until 1993 the Grand Prix of Miami was held at Bicentennial Park. The lined barriers from the track were still visible until the construction of Museum Park.

Over the years Bicentennial Park began to deteriorate due to lack of upkeep and complaints of poor design. The homeless began to sleep in the park after a judge ordered the city to give them a place to stay.

Bicentennial Park hosted many events over the years including the popular Ultra Music Festival, but residents craved a new updated park.

The plans for Museum Park finally came into fruition and $10 million was given for improvements to the park. On the Northern section of the park is the recently completed Perez Art Museum of Miami and the Frost Museum of Science, which is expected to be completed in 2015.

Museum Park opened on June 14, 2014 (Photos can be seen here) and is a vast improvement over Bicentennial Park. Hopefully the park will be maintained over the years and does not become another Bicentennial Park.

Miami Worldcenter Marriott Hotel & Expo Center Renderings

The MDM Group has planned a 54 story, 636 foot Marriott Hotel & Expo Center according to exMiami.

The site is to include the former Miami Heat Arena and the project's architect is NBWW.

Genting and Related Group Discuss Partnership On Resorts World Miami Site

The Miami Herald reports that Genting Resort World Miami and the Related Group's Jorge Perez have been in preliminary discussions about partnering on the undeveloped waterfront former Miami Herald site.

Genting has been unable to receive Florida legislative approval for a casino on the site, which would have also included condos, hotel and retail.

Genting has been slow to demolish the rest of the Miami Herald Building since the first explosion almost two months ago.
